Samruddhi

Why Samruddhi?

RIN through its various other programmes incubates many innovations every year. At the same time, we have found that it is not quite easy to discover high impact, innovative products which have the potential to scale across the country. We have also learnt that there are many innovative products which have significant local impact. Project Samruddhi therefore will strengthen RINs mission to enable innovations to reach the markets and at the same time create a platform to make accessible innovations which have local impact.

Project Samruddhi - Philosophy & Objectives

In its last mile intervention to take innovations to market, Project Samruddhi is guided by the following principles:

  • Improve affordability of innovations in rural markets

  • Make innovations accessible to users in the rural markets

  • Increase engagement with the end user by giving them a comprehensive set of services and products

The objectives that Samruddhi has set for itself are:

  1. Enhance livelihood assets of rural lives through adoption of innovations
  2. Showcase  a scalable and replicable model for marketing innovations

Samruddhi : The Business Model

Project Samruddhi will be initiated by a TRIAL phase. In the trial phase two outlets will be opened to be fully managed by RIN. The performance of these outlets would be monitored for six months for identifying customer footfalls, revenues, costs as well as qualitative data such as customer profiles, purchase behaviour, acceptance of the concept ‘Samruddhi’ etc. The observations would be recorded and would prove as inputs into draft business planning (15 days during the Trial phase) for initiating the PILOT phase.

In the PILOT phase RIN would identify and recruit 4 franchisees to run retail chains in selected areas. The operations of these franchisees would also be monitored to understand the working of the franchising model and measuring the success of the idea Samruddhi

Products

The products offered will be innovative in nature and each shop would stock only innovative products. This fulfils of the objective of making innovations accessible to the end user and also retains the USP of Samruddhi as a pure innovations shop.

RIN identifies entrepreneurs and innovations in the areas of Energy, Agriculture, dairy and Water. Given this extensive scouting expertise of RIN, Samruddhi would initially choose to create a portfolio of innovative, efficient and cost effective products in these four sectors. The products proposed to be offered are as follows:

Bio Asthira (Herbal Pesticide), Aiswarya Seeder (used to sow seeds in paddy), Aiswarya Weeder, Sugarcane De-trasher, Insect Traps (product to control insect infestation), JS Milker (Manual Milking Machine),  Mastitis Testing Kit (prognostic kit to detect Mastitis infection), Mastitis Udder Care Kit, Venus Burner (used in stoves and saves kerosene), Servals Stove (efficient kerosene stove), Navagni Stove (flexible biomass fuel stove), Fuel+ (increases fuel efficiency in bikes, cars, engines and gas stoves), KB Nutrition Kit (used to irrigate kitchen gardens), KB drip irrigation (water saving irrigation system)

Samruddhi's first Retail shop at TN Palayam, a small town near Gopichettippalayam, was inaugurated by Mr. Azhageshan, Program Officer, MYRADA Krishi Vignan Kendra on 22nd January 2007.
