Paul Basil Mr. Basil is founder and CEO of RIN. Over the last 6 years, Mr Basil has worked with hundreds of innovations and innovators. He co-founded the Lemelson Recognition and Mentoring Programme for Innovators in collaboration with IIT-Madras. Mr Basil has also co-founded Samruddhi, a unique rural retail chain for innovative products. Mr. Basil is a member of the Promotion Board of Technopreneur Promotion Programme, an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology. Mr Basil has consulted for a project of the International Finance Corporation and also offers advisory services to Bombay Hub, a novel incubator for social entrepreneurs. Mr Basil also offered incubation support in setting up of the Chennai centre of iVolunteer, a leading non-profit that connects volunteers with NGOs. Mr. Basil was awarded the Ashoka Fellowship in 2002 for his outstanding social entrepreneurship in setting up RIN. He has also been conferred the Samaj Seva Bhushan Award. Mr. Basil was one of the earliest team members at the marketing department of the Kerala Horticulture Development Programme, a project of the European Union and the Government of Kerala. Mr. Basil’s worked on two key social innovations while at KHDP. The first was establishment of fruit and vegetable “farmer’s markets” and the other was “Udyanam” a fresh fruit and vegetable retail chain. Over 100 farmer’s markets exist now and are the hubs of commercial horticulture in Kerala, catering to over 10,000 farmers. Mr Basil has also worked with the tree grower's project of the National Dairy Development Board. James Rajanayagam
Mr James Rajanayagam is a textile technologist from the Anna University, Chennai. James has extensive manufacturing experience in the polyester sector with Reliance Industries Limited. James has also obtained a Masters in Business Adminstration in Technology and Innovation Management from the Stuttgart Institute of Management & Technology, Germany. Before joining RIN, James was an entrepreneur, in exporting of textiles.
Dimple Bhargava
Dimple Bhargava holds a Post-graduate degree in Commerce in Business Administration from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. She also holds a Post-graduate diploma in Public Relations from Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan's Management College, Jaipur. Dimple has 3.5 years of experience in corporate communication and office administration. Prior to joining RIN, she worked with Esquire International Financing Inc., Manila (Philippines) as auditor. Prior to that, she worked as Public Relations Officer of Ambassy College, Jaipur. She has also worked at Pink City Radio Taxi Ltd., Jaipur as office Manager, where she was responsible for business development, negotiations with new clients and advising top management in policy making issues viz. advertising, public relations and Human Resource management. At RIN, Dimple will be responsible for Corporate communication and documentation
Arun Sharma
Arun moved to Chennai from Canada to work on water-related innovations. His engineering qualifications are from the University of Waterloo (Waterloo, Ontario, Canada) and the University of Cambridge (Cambridge, England) where he recently completed a Master of Philosophy in Engineering for Sustainable Development, focusing on household water supply in less-developed contexts. In his pre-RIN days, Arun worked with firms in industries ranging from national government to multinational management consultants. More recently, he worked in Sudan and the Ivory Coast focusing on water supply and logistics in emergency contexts.
Devyani Srinivasan
Devyani will add impetus to our research and documentation work. Prior to RIN, Devyani worked as Research and Outreach Coordinator for Multistory Complex, analyzing food vending regulations and enforcement in Toronto. She also created and implemented a street vendor research and outreach strategy, including conducting interviews, workshops and focus groups. At the University of Toronto, Devyani worked as a Research and Teaching Assistant and researched the history of agriculture all over the world from 500 B.C. to the present, tracing the development from traditional crops grown in ecologically suitable zones to the dominance of wheat, maize and soy in industrial farming systems. In India, Devyani worked for the Covenant Centre for Development (CCD), Tamil Nadu, India and was their Director of Programmes (Research). In specific she documented the organization’s history and researched how value-added medicinal plants and agricultural products were marketed through network of women’s SHGs. At Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP), Maharashtra, India, Devyani developed the Community Manual and indicators for community monitoring of primary health care in rural districts, as well as other basic services. Devyani is a Master's in Science, Environmental Planning and Policy from the University of Toronto and also has a graduation in Bachelor of Arts, Anthroplogy from Wesleyan University.
Bhavani Ravi
Bhavani will lead our talent development programme. Bhavani has over 12 years experience in the HR domain. She has worked in all the domains of HR along the development continuum - IR, Welfare, Personnel, HR, People development and Organisation Development. Her last assignment was with Ma Foi Management Consultants Ltd, where she has spent almost 9 years. In Ma Foi, she has handled various portfolios like HR, Assessment Practice and Psychometric testing and Operations Management. She has carried out HR Consulting assignments for more than 60 organisations and has also headed the BPO operations of the payroll outsourcing unit in Ma Foi with more than 200 clients. She has also worked with Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals and Sterling Holiday Resorts India Ltd., Bhavani is an MBA in HR and is also a Master's in Psychology
Mohd. Tariq Ali
Mohd. Tariq Ali has joined RIN as Manager-Direct Operations from 1st Jan 2008 and is in-charge of establishing Samruddhi stores, spreading the network and fore fronting all sales and marketing activities of Innovative products through them. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Agribusiness Management (PGDABM) from MANAGE (National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management), Hyderabad, and has done his B.Sc. Agriculture & Animal Husbandry and M.Sc. Agriculture (Genetics & Plant Breeding) from Gobind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar.. Tariq began his career with Tata Chemicals Ltd. (TCL) and was with them for the past four and half years, where he has worked as TKVK In-charge and as Asst. Manager-Pesticides. Tata Krishi Vikas Kendra (TKVK) is the franchised rural agribusiness network of TCL and he was managing this network in Aligarh district in UP. Later he was at the TCL head office (Noida) as Asst. Manager-Pesticides looking after the pesticides sourcing and trading operations for the TKVK network spread over seven states.
Kanagaraj Alexander
Mr. Alexander will work as Specialist Technology Services for RIN. He is a graduate from Bangalore University, and done his post Graduate training in Product Design from National institute of Design. He has worked as Project officer- Indian Social Institute (New Delhi),Manager, Marketing and Technical Services- Kiran Electronics Pvt Ltd (Chennai), Senior Manager- Service Dept- Alacrity Electronics Ltd (Chennai), Vice president- Corporate Research, overseeing Technology Development-Alacrity Electronics ltd (Chennai), Chief Program officer-LRAMP – India (Chennai).
Rajeev Surana
Rajeev Surana, a Marketing Management & Chemical Engineer by qualification has a passion to commercialise Innovations thro' Technology Transfer & Licensing deals with Industry partners & other interested parties thereby providing an opportunity to innovators to impact lives and benefit monetarily as well. He will be responsible for commercialising innovations incubated thro' L-RAMP program and will set up a Technology Transfer & Licensing practice at Rural Innovation Network. Additionally, he will also take the initiative of systemically connecting "Innovators to Entrepreneurs" as part of Innovation Ecosystem building thro' a recent grant funded by HIVOS which is headquartered in Netherlands. Prior to taking up this assignment, he has been an Entrepreneur recruiting Scientists & Technologists for the R&D secor in India apart from being a Visiting Faculty at MET Management Insititute in Mumbai.
