ASHOKA INNOVATORS FOR THE PUBLIC
Ashoka Innovators for the Public is a global non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, U.S.A. It invests in Fellowships to individuals who are crafting new solutions for existing social problems. As Ashoka puts it, 'The recipients of our Fellowships are "public entrepreneurs" who are working on new ideas in any field of development (health, gender rights, human rights, education, income generation, child rights, etc.) and have the blueprint for replicating their ideas for national and international impact. The models that they design are refreshingly different from tired prescriptions that have been applied in their field before.' Ashoka's global vision is to define and create a new professional association of social entrepreneurship. In doing so, Ashoka builds peerage among social entrepreneurs in countries of operation. Even as Ashoka supports those at the launch stage, it constantly endeavors to elect Ashoka members who are leading social entrepreneurs, have already made a scratch on history and are well ensconced in the mature phase of their work. Members are mentors for other Ashoka Fellows. They contribute to and benefit from the Ashoka Fellowship at least as much as other Fellows do. Over 1200 Ashoka Fellows currently work in 41 countries in diverse fields.
